All hail the lunchbox saviour: 5 Min Choccie Crackle
School went back yesterday here in NSW and that means one thing: F my life it’s another whole term of lunch boxes. Lunchboxes: literally my most loathed adult task outside of filling the car up with petrol.
You’d think with food not just as my chosen job, but as my whole way of life that some amount of pleasure would be sequestered from making my kids’ lunch boxes. Alas it is my purest form of hell.
A toddler and a tween, both finicky AF, changing what they despise and find delicious on every given day — it’s like the matrix. A completely thankless ritual I wake up to fail at day after day after day.
Especially my eldest being at a public primary school in a small regional town — you are up against the lunch box norm of a plethora of packaged processed shit perfected to a prepubescent’s palette.
“Can I just have some yum stuff in my lunchbox like the other kids,” he says.
“Well you give me some suggestions of what you’ll eat and I’ll do it,” I say.
“Jelly cups, LCM’s.”
“Hard no mate.”
Alas, thank god for these easy chocolate crackles. Literally take 5 mins to make and are so delicious! Saving my life this week, cos let’s face it, next week they will be irrationally and for absolutely no reason, giving both my sons the total ick.
