Our ethics

Our mission is to bottle the concept of farm to plate (quite literally) and pop it smack bang right on the table.

But rather than just talk the talk, we are dedicated to stomping on trendy greenwash jargon with a big dirty Blundstone boot walkin’ the walk.

We are driven by eating with the seasons, celebrating the gluts of produce from backyards and farms within our local community that would otherwise go to waste, the little guys close to home growing ingredients right.

Our hope is that our fun, yum spicy treats empower folk to eat better. And make thoughtful decisions about what we each are putting into our bods, who we support by what we put into our bods, and what that means for the big blue mama we live on ~ outside of hot sauce.

How are we living up to our ethics?

  • We keep up with demand without turning to chillies grown with pesticides by having our own regenerative permaculture plot in Byron Bay where our Crack Fox chillies are grown.

See more on our chilli plot here.

  • By supporting the small food systems within our local community - we are backing small local businesses, assisting them to continue growing healthy, nutritious produce for the people of our community while regenerating soil, sequestering carbon and reducing carbon emissions for the whole planet.

And while we are a small business ourselves we still ensure a part of our profit goes back into Arakwal and Yaegl lands we operate from and the community we call home. Did you know $1 from every bumper sticker sold is donated to a local community need? Check them out here.

  • We are committed to keeping our environmental impact to a minimum. Not only are our ingredients sourced with sustainability in mind, our Crack Fox packaging is too.

    • Our postal boxes are 100% biodegradable

    • Our delivery vessels for our stockists are boxes we have recycled and repurposed.

    • Our thank you cards are made from 100% consumer post waste.

    • Our hot sauce labels are made from 30% consumer post waste and 70% sustainable material derived from wood.

    • Our hot salt labels are 100% recyclable

    • Our tissue paper and honeycomb bubble wrap is 100% recyclable.

    • Our food waste ~ what we don’t use gets either fed to our bantam chooks, composted or dried (our citrus peels from hot sauce, leftover chillies) to use in our salts, rubs and seasonings.

  • Our lolly pink wax seals are applied by hand. Yep, every single one. And it’s not just a task we dedicate ourselves to for cute aesthetics.

By us tamper-proofing our bottles with wax derived from natural resources, we keep our products free from oxidisation or potential spoiling which means they are safe for you to take straight off the shelf of your favourite grocer or cafe.

Wax is our choice over bottle caps with snap ring-necks due those rings being the perfect size to get stuck on little beaks, legs, wings. It’s our choice over shrink wrapping (a single-use plastic that is complicated to recycle) due to it’s propensity to find its way to waterways, rivers, streams, and eventually the ocean.

Additionally, plastic wrappers and plastic necks have to be completely removed from the glass bottle before it can be recycled. Our wax top will naturally melt in the recycling process.

Help us recycle as many of our bottles and jars as possible by removing lids before disposing of in the recycling bin.

A hot sauce addiction you can feel good about

Our seasonal sauces make the most of seasonal gluts, support farmers by using excess produce that would otherwise go to waste.
